What is a soldering station?

Last verified 2026-08-09

A soldering station is a soldering iron paired with a separate control base that regulates and displays its temperature, rather than the iron heating to a fixed or roughly-adjustable point on its own. The base usually includes a stand for the iron, a temperature dial or digital display, and on combo stations, additional tools like a hot-air gun for SMD rework. The core benefit over a plain iron is temperature stability — the base actively compensates as the tip loses heat to a joint.
